CIA Together We’re Better
The York Region District School Board hosted the 23rd, student conference on equity and inclusivity for intermediate students (grades 7 and 8) on April 26, 2018. Last year, approximately 1,000 intermediate students participated in the program, which included a keynote presentation, speakers and a wide variety of interactive workshops. This year, the Together We’re Better Conference was a collaborative event in partnership with the Harmony Movement. The Harmony Movement is engaging schools across Canada in a youth conference called: Voices of Canadian Youth. We are collaborating together to achieve the following learning goals for our school district:
·         Explore the roles of personal and social identity;
·         Enhance understanding of the lived experience of discrimination, prejudice and stereotypes;
·         Increase awareness of cultural diversity, or cultural/racial/ethnic/religious issues affecting the full participation in Canadian society and the economy; and
·         Take action to promote inclusion, diversity and social change.
7 members of CIA attended this year’s conference, and are in the process of creating a plan of action for BHES.

CIA Walk for Water
Bayview Hill students participated in our Walk for Water Event on Friday, April 27th! They had the opportunity to simulate what it is like to walk and carry water. Our school has raised over $7000 dollars, and provided clean drinking water for 290 people for life. Thank you to our school community for supporting the CIA's initiative and for your generous donations! We will announce the winning class on Monday. Thank you to our Children in Action committee for all the work they did in promoting this very worthwhile event. Our community is extremely generous and supportive of initiative that help others. Go Bengals!
